Financial Literacy Resources

Quick tools and guides to help you manage your money while you’re in college — and after.

Start by completing the FAFSA or WASFA to see what grants, loans, and work‑study you qualify for.

  •  (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): For U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens.
  • (Washington Application for State Financial Aid): For students who are not eligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status.

Know what you borrowed, your interest rates, and when repayment begins.
Log in to your federal aid account to see your full loan history.

View your loans by . Or visit YVC page for more loan information.

A bank account helps you track your spending, pay bills, and avoid carrying cash.
Choose a bank or credit union with low fees and convenient ATMs.

How to open a bank account:

A simple budget shows where your money goes each month.
Update it regularly, especially if your living situation or income changes.

Use CashCourse’s Budget Wizard in CashCourse to create a budget.

Get in the habit of saving a little each month.
Start with an emergency fund, then add goals like grad school or buying a car.

How many credit cards do you have? Do you know the interest rate for each card? Credit cards can come in handy, but they can also get you into financial trouble, so use them wisely. Credit, charge, or debit? Each lets you pay for products and services. Each also has unique characteristics. And if you’re shopping for a credit card, it’s important to compare fees, interest rates, finance charges, and benefits.

Your credit score affects renting, jobs, insurance, and loan costs.
Check your credit report regularly and dispute anything incorrect.

Never share your Social Security number unless required.
Watch for scams and keep your personal information secure.
