Work Study at YVC
Through our Work Study programs, students can work part-time (up to 16 hours per week) while attending classes. Both leads and student employees share the responsibility of making the experience productive and positive.
On-campus employment helps you:

Getting Started
- Request Orientation
- Fill out the .
- Financial Aid will check your eligibility.
- Complete Training
- If eligible, you’ll get a Canvas course invite.
- Finish the course and pass the quiz (80% or higher).
- Apply for Jobs
- After passing, unlock the Job Openings Module in Canvas.
- Apply directly to positions following each job’s instructions.
- Interview & Selection
- Leads (supervisors) review applications and may interview.
- If selected, they’ll notify you.
- Hiring & Onboarding
- Financial Aid, your Lead, and HR handle the referral paperwork.
- HR will contact you for paperwork, background checks, and onboarding training.
- Once complete, HR confirms your official start date.
- Referrals are handled only by Hiring Leads and Financial Aid.
- Students are not involved in this process.
- Students submit work hours in ctcLink.
- Timesheets are due on the 15th and end of each month (or the Friday before if the date falls on a weekend/holiday).
- Leads must approve Tiimesheets before submission to Payroll.
- Late Timesheets are processed for the next pay date.
- Students are paid on the 10th and 25th via direct deposit.
- Pay rates are set by Human Resources based on federal and state program requirements.

How to Calculate Number of Hours Per Week/Quarter
Follow these three steps to calculate your weekly hours:
- Start with your total quarterly award.
- Divide by your hourly wage to find your total hours for the quarter.
- Divide by the number of weeks in the quarter to get your hours per week without exceeding your award.
Submit your Timesheet to your lead.
- Leads approve all Tiimesheets and send them to Payroll.
Submit on the 15th and the end of each month (or the Friday before if it falls on a weekend/holiday).
Late Tiimesheets are processed on the next payroll date.
All paychecks are sent by direct deposit to your bank account.
Twice a month, usually on the 10th and 25th.
Students are generally expected to take time off during winter and spring breaks.
If you have remaining funding and are enrolled at least half-time for the following quarter, you may work during break periods.
- You cannot exceed your quarterly award.
