Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH)

The Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) program aims to assist students experiencing homelessness, are at risk for homelessness, and/or who were in the foster care system when they graduated high school. It was established in 2019 when the Washington Legislature passed Second Substitute Senate Bill (2SSB) 5800 concerning homeless college students, followed by an expansion in 2021 with Substitute House Bill (SHB) 1166.

Students at YVC may be eligible for additional funding and support if they meet certain criteria. Refer to the YVC Special Programs Flyer below for a summary of the programs available.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Current student: Any currently enrolled student at YVC is eligible. This includes those in College and Career Readiness (CCR) and in Running Start.
• Experiencing homelessness: This includes students 鈥渃ouch surfing鈥�; those in shared housing (doubling up), hotels, motels, camping grounds and emergency or transitional shelters; those staying in public or private places not designed for humans to live; and those living in cars, parks, bus or train stations, abandoned buildings or substandard housing.
• At risk of homelessness: This includes students behind on rent/mortgage payments and those with eviction notices.
• (Optional) Formerly in foster care: Students who were in the foster care system when they graduated high school are automatically eligible.
  
  

Priority will be given to first time applicants, those that are unhoused, and those with eviction notices.

Please Note: Enrollment in SSEH is based on eligibility and availability of funds. Students must re-apply each quarter.
