On April 22, 2026, 鶹Ƶ will hold its inaugural Giving Day — a 24-hour campaign to support YVC students who are pursuing their dreams. The campaign aims to raise more than $50,000 to support students facing financial emergencies and enhance the student experience.
“For nearly a century, 鶹Ƶ has been a place of opportunity,” said YVC President Teresa Rich. “Thanks to the education students receive here, they’ve gone on to build better lives for themselves and their families — and our YVC alumni contribute immensely to our region’s economy and culture.”
While YVC provides an affordable education close to home, Rich noted that a significant majority of the college’s students are first-generation college students, are from poverty-impacted households, or are both.
“Many of our students face financial challenges that can make it difficult to stay in school, even though they know earning their college degree or certificate will help them earn more and open future opportunities,” said Rich. “That’s why we’re launching our YVC Giving Day.”
The top priority for this year’s Giving Day is strengthening the YVC Foundation’s Student Emergency Fund, which assists students facing unexpected financial crises that threaten their ability to stay in school.
Thanks to a generous matching donation, gifts made during Giving Day will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $14,000. Raising $28,000 would help at least 56 YVC students facing an emergency expense continue their education.
“Whatever the size of a gift, it makes a huge difference to a student facing an emergency expense such as a flat tire or a medical bill,” said YVC Foundation Executive Director Stacey Kautz.
Other challenges during Giving Day will open additional opportunities for people to extend the impact of their gifts:
- STEM Undergraduate Research Experiences — Support student participation in community-based research projects that provide valuable hands-on experience supporting their education and career goals.
Gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar match up to $2,500. Every $2,000 raised will support a stipend for a YVC student to take part in an undergraduate research experience that can give a significant boost to their future educational and professional achievement.
- College and Career Readiness Tuition Grant — Support adult learners who have completed one of YVC’s College and Career Readiness (CCR) programs and are starting college-level coursework toward a degree or certificate. CCR programs help students finish high school, learn English or strengthen skills such as writing and math in order to bolster their career opportunities.
Gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar match up to $2,500. Every $1,660 raised helps one student transition into a degree or certificate program by covering their tuition for that one quarter.
- Athletic Programs — Support the academic and athletic success of YVC student-athletes with financial need by making a gift to the men’s basketball and baseball programs and women’s volleyball, basketball, soccer and softball programs.
In this challenge opportunity, the three teams receiving the highest number of individual donations will earn matching funds:
-
- $1,500 for the highest number
- $1,000 for second highest
- $500 for third highest
- Student Clubs — Support student clubs at 鶹Ƶ offering activities and programs that enrich the student experience. YVC offers a wide range of clubs and organizations that complement academic learning, reflect diverse student interests, and provide opportunities for community service at the college and across the Yakima Valley.
In this challenge opportunity, the three clubs receiving the highest number of individual donations will earn matching funds:
-
- $1,500 for the highest number
- $1,000 for second highest
- $500 for third highest
Current YVC clubs include agribusiness, astronomy, billiards, business, climbing, computer science/IT, drama, music, PRIDE, wellness, veterinary technology and more.
- Pottery & Art Sale — Support YVC’s Department of Visual Arts. Proceeds from this event taking place in conjunction with Giving Day will go toward supplies and other expenses that enhance opportunities for student art-making. Patrons are invited to extend their support of students by making an additional donation beyond the cost of their purchases.
