Pharmacy Assistant Program

This Pharmacy Assistant Certificate provides a foundation of knowledge valuable to any healthcare career as well as opportunities to work in various pharmacy settings. Our program prepares students to be licensed pharmacy assistants in Washington State. Assistants work alongside pharmacy technicians and under the guidance of pharmacists, performing clerical duties necessary to ensure that a pharmacy is running efficiently. They answer telephone calls, manage the cash register, and may restock shelves with medication and other pharmaceutical or medical supplies.  

Our Pharmacy Assistant Certificate takes only one quarter to complete with an opportunity to continue your education in YVC’s Pharmacy Technician program. The healthcare field offers a multitude of advancement opportunities, making it an ideal field for anyone who wants long-term professional possibilities and exciting new challenges.  

Program Information

  • Identify and utilize terminology, abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols utilized in medication orders for drug therapies. 
  • Identify classifications and routes of administration of common medications. 
  • Apply legal concepts in relation to pharmacy by explaining the scope of practice of a pharmacy assistant and completing an application to register with the Department of Health. 

  • Pharmacy Assistant hourly wage: $18.11

Upon program completions, students will have earned:

  • Pharmacy Assistant Certificate
  • Washington State Department of Health Credential
  • Certifications in First Aid, Healthcare Provider
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR),
  • Seven hours of Blood-Borne Pathogen (BBP) training.

Pharmacy assistants assist pharmacists by performing all clerical duties necessary to ensure that a pharmacy is running efficiently. They answer telephone calls, manage the cash register, and restock shelves with medication and other pharmaceutical supplies. YVC’s Pharmacy Assistant Certificate takes two quarters to complete with an opportunity to continue your education at YVC as a Pharmacy Technician. The pharmaceutical field offers a multitude of advancement opportunities, making it an ideal field for anyone who wants long-term professional possibilities and exciting new challenges. Pharmacy assistants can expect to earn over $30k a year, with a job outlook growing faster than the average employment field over the next ten years.
