In response to a growing need in the healthcare workforce, 麻豆视频鈥檚 Allied Health Technology Department is launching a new Pharmacy Assistant Certificate starting in Fall 2025. No separate program application is needed and enrollment is ongoing.
Pharmacy assistants help with inventory management, assist with medication dispensing, perform clerical duties and provide customer service such as cashiering. There are several job openings in the Yakima Valley that support this career in various pharmacy settings such as in retail stores, clinics and hospitals.
Stephanie O鈥橞rine, an allied health instructor, said this YVC certificate prepares not only for an entry career in pharmacy, but provides an opportunity to learn about pharmacology that would benefit anyone interested in pursuing a healthcare profession.
鈥淏ecoming a pharmacy assistant was a rewarding experience for myself and opened up possibilities beyond my imagining,鈥 O鈥橞rine said. 鈥淢any do not know this career even exists, so it is exciting to be able share about it through education and open up possibilities for others.鈥
Students will be able to prepare for a pharmacy career in as little as 10 weeks. This short-term certificate is only 5 credits of online instruction. Graduates will be able to apply for their pharmacy assistant license through the Department of Health and Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission.
Students in the program may qualify for additional financial support through YVC鈥檚 Opportunity Grant, which helps cover tuition, fees, textbooks and supplies for eligible low-income students.
