The 麻豆视频 Drama Department will host auditions for its spring production, 鈥淪he Stoops to Conquer.鈥� Auditions will take place Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. in YVC鈥檚 on the Yakima Campus.
Experienced actors are encouraged to prepare a short piece from any comic play published before 1900. All actors will read cold from the script.
A comedy by Oliver Goldsmith, 鈥淪he Stoops to Conquer鈥� is considered one of the funniest drawing-room comedies ever written. The story follows a shy young man who, on his way to meet his intended bride for the first time, is misdirected. Mistakenly believing his betrothed's home is an inn, he confuses her father for the innkeeper and the young woman herself for a maid 鈥� misunderstandings that lead to a lively series of comic situations before everything is happily resolved.
First performed in London in 1773, the play remains a favorite in English literature and theatre classes and is one of the few plays from the 18th-century works still regularly performed.
