About Travis
Being a first generation college student, I really enjoy working with YVC students and helping them navigate college. Many faculty members helped guide me as a student, and I try to bring that level of support to our campus. I always find that YVC students are so grateful, smart, and fun.
I’ve had the pleasure of teaching English at YVC since 2015, when I arrived after teaching for four years at the University of Utah. My career began as a high school English and journalism teacher in rural Oregon, and after grad school at Oregon State, I taught first-year composition and business writing at OSU while coordinating the university’s writing across the curriculum program.
Teaching and integrating writing across the college continues to be a professional focus of mine today. My academic and scholarly pursuits also include teaching technical writing, incorporating embodied rhetoric in the classroom, and integrating equitable assessment and antiracist practices across the curriculum.
Outside of work, I love hiking in the Cascades, playing basketball, and spending time with my family. Our young daughter keeps us on the go and brings so much joy to our lives.
