About Kristy
I love teaching at YVC because of our students. Every quarter and in every class I teach, I learn something new that helps me grow as a teacher and as a human being. Teaching at the smaller campus in Grandview is a full circle moment for me since this is where I grew up and attended school before leaving the area for over two decades. I am a first-generation college student, as well as the daughter of a Latina immigrant.
I want to provide an inclusive and equitable environment for students where they feel safe being themselves, sharing their thoughts and taking risks. Students might enjoy my classes if they benefit from group work where each individual has a voice, a role, and a support system. I teach students with the knowledge that they are whole human beings with (often demanding) lives outside of the classroom. It is important to me that students not only feel academically supported, but emotionally supported as well. I am always open to feedback from students and my teaching practices have evolved over the past six years thanks to student voices.
In my other life, I am a poet, writer, artist, and animal rescuer.
