Meet Dr. Reyes
I was born and raised in El Paso, TX (Chuco Town) by a single, immigrant, teen mom who raised four children who all went on to earn college degrees, 3 of them even earned graduate degrees! I have an AMAZING wife, am a father to 3 beautiful little boys, and have been an elementary school teacher, high school teacher, university professor, and principal. One year I even served as Interim-Director of YVC's BAS Teacher education program.
I have been at YVC teaching sociology, ethnic studies, and Chicano studies for 15 years. I love every moment of meeting, learning about, and supporting each of the students I encounter on campus and in my classroom. My life and work are greatly enriched because of my students' lives, their stories, and the role I play in helping them attain their personal, professional, academic, and life goals.
I frequently tell my students everyone one of us is a sociologist. Sociology is lived. My courses help students see and explore how their lives are not necessarily the exclusive result of the choices they make, but are quite frequently the product of social forces at work in their lives related to their family, gender, race, social class, laws, and social policies.
Once you take any of my classes, you will never see yourself, your life, or others
the same again. No joke! For reals!
