About Dr. Kimble

I am Jason Kimble, PhD, a science-focused instructor with over seven years of experience teaching in higher education. I earned my doctorate from the University of New Mexico in 2017, specializing in molecular microbial ecology. My research project allowed me to explore hidden worlds of carbonate and lava caves in the subsurface. One of the carbonate caves I visited was found in Fort Stanton Cave, and had a passage known as Snowy River, which is truly a geological wonder. Getting to the passage required crawling on one’s stomach through a narrow muddy channel that had been dug out that barely allowed for the passage of a single person. My dissertation focused on comparing the bacterial and archaeal communities in the subsurface versus the surface and the implications for the cycling of nitrogen in a low-nutrient environment.

Following graduate school, I gained valuable industry experience as a microbiologist monitoring sterile injectable manufacturing in cleanroom environments. I share this real world experience and knowledge I gained in industry with students in the classroom. Since then, I have dedicated my career to teaching microbiology, chemistry, and introductory biology, with a particular focus on supporting students pursuing health science majors. Teaching is truly my passion and I consider myself fortunate to do something I really enjoy for a living.

Students in my classes can expect a learning environment that connects complex biological concepts to practical, professional applications. I enjoy working at Yakima Valley College (YVC) because it allows me to help students build the foundational scientific knowledge they need to succeed in their future careers.

When I’m not in the classroom, my focus is on my family, enjoying vacations (especially cruises), and exploring the outdoors. I am incredibly excited to begin my journey at YVC and look forward to getting to know the faculty, staff, and students.
