About Dr. Petty

My love for math and science has shaped both my academic journey and my career. I earned a master’s degree in physics and later completed a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science at Nagoya University in Japan. My research focused on Polar Stratospheric Clouds and their role in the destruction of the Stratospheric Ozone, which took me to Fairbanks, Alaska, the closest I could get to the Arctic.

After moving to the Tri-Cities, Washington, I had the opportunity to teach my first college math class—and I absolutely loved it. What began as a new experience quickly became a passion and a calling. I have been teaching since 2012, and I truly enjoy my interaction with students, helping them build confidence and discovering that they are capable of more than they think. I also strive to make math practical and fun to learn by connecting concepts to real-life situations and encouraging active participation.

I am excited to be part of Â鶹ÊÓƵ and the beautiful Grandview campus. I look forward to bringing energy, passion, and purpose to my classes and supporting students as they work toward their goals.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring the Pacific Northwest—hiking and backpacking in the summer, and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. I am also an active member of the Inter-Mountain Alpine Club board, supporting outdoor education and community engagement. My Christian faith plays an important role in my life and shapes the way I approach service, purpose, and community.
