Raising a glass to YVC’s rising stars in wine
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is celebrating three standout students from its program who are making their mark in Washington’s wine industry. Briley Ingram, Luis Lopez and Steven Arellano have each earned scholarships from the , honoring their passion, dedication and potential to shape the future of viticulture and enology.
Briley Ingram – Foundation Scholarship
A native of Yamhill, Ore., Ingram discovered her love for grape growing in high school,
drawn to the science and artistry behind viticulture. After earning her associate
degree at YVC, she transferred this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agricultural
sciences.
– Walter J. Clore Scholarship
Lopez, originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, is a proud DACA recipient who brings a rich
cultural perspective to winemaking. His hands-on experience at YVC and volunteer work
at wine events reflect a deep commitment to the craft. Lopez hopes to inspire future
generations to appreciate the heritage and community behind every bottle.
Steven Arellano – Foundation Scholarship
Raised in the heart of the Yakima Valley, Arellano’s agricultural roots led him to
viticulture. With an associate degree and a crop scouting certificate from YVC, he
is now continuing his education at Washington State University, where he’s pursuing
a bachelor’s degree in viticulture and enology.
YVC alumni publishes book about Naches history
YVC alumnus Doug MacNeil, a longtime resident and former mayor of Naches, recently authored a book chronicling the town’s rich history.
features nearly 200 photos and more than 1,500 names of individuals connected to the town’s history. MacNeil, 89, has deep roots in the community — his family settled in Naches in 1898 and has remained active in local business and civic life for generations. Proceeds from the self-published book are being donated to local causes, including Applewood Park and the Little League.
